Choosing Outcomes Over Justifications

"You either have outcomes or justifications; you can't have both."

This powerful truth challenges us to confront the choices we make every day. In wellness, fitness, and personal growth, the outcomes we desire—be it improved health, mindfulness, or inner peace—are within our reach. However, achieving them requires consistency and action, not excuses or explanations for why we couldn’t begin.

As a Maryland, D.C., and Virginia yoga instructor, mindfulness coach, and wellness facilitator, I’ve seen the transformation that happens when individuals choose action over hesitation. Whether on the yoga mat, during pranayama breathwork, or in a corporate wellness session, the decision to show up and commit is what ultimately leads to outcomes.

The Nature of Justifications

Justifications are often rooted in understandable circumstances—busy schedules, low energy, or fear of failure. But when we allow these justifications to dominate, they block the path to growth and positive change. The first step to transformation is recognizing when we’re making excuses and replacing them with deliberate action.

Steps to Focus on Outcomes

  1. Define Your Goals Clearly Take a moment to envision your desired outcome. Whether it’s increased flexibility, reduced stress, or a stronger connection to your breath, a clear goal inspires purposeful action.
  2. Prioritize Small, Consistent Actions You don’t have to overhaul your entire routine overnight. Start with small, achievable steps—like attending a yoga class, incorporating mindful breathing, or scheduling regular wellness practices.
  3. Recognize and Challenge Your Justifications When you hear your inner voice saying “I’m too busy” or “I’ll start tomorrow,” pause and reflect. Acknowledge the thought, but ask yourself: What can I do today, even if it’s small?
  4. Commit to Showing Up Outcomes are the result of consistency. Commit to your practice—whether at Merritt Clubs, Sage Health, or Revolve Wellness in Catonsville—and trust the process.
  5. Celebrate Your Progress Focus on the outcomes you’re achieving, no matter how small they seem. Each step forward is a testament to your dedication and growth.

The Power of Choice

Every moment presents a choice: to take action toward the outcomes we want or to settle into justifications. Choosing outcomes requires courage and persistence, but the rewards—physical strength, mental clarity, and emotional balance—are worth the effort.
