Somatic Grounding Tool: Feet on the Floor Reset
Michelle Dhanoa | MAR 20
A simple, stabilizing practice to bring your awareness back into your body and the present moment.
This somatic tool uses grounding through the feet to help regulate the nervous system, reduce overwhelm, and restore a sense of steadiness. It’s especially supportive during transitions, anxiety, or moments of emotional intensity.
A stable seat
Both feet on the floor
30–60 seconds of quiet
Sit comfortably and place both feet flat on the floor.
Press gently into the floor and notice the contact—warmth, pressure, or steadiness.
Take three slow breaths, letting your exhale soften your shoulders.
Stay for 30–60 seconds, noticing any shift in grounding or presence.
Wiggle your toes or shift weight side to side to increase sensation.
Place a folded blanket under your feet for warmth.
Add a hand on your belly for extra grounding.
If focusing on the body feels overwhelming, keep your attention on the sensation of the floor rather than internal sensations.
During anxiety or overwhelm
Before meetings or conversations
After transitions or travel
When you feel scattered or disconnected
