Somatic Grounding Tool: Hand‑Over‑Hand Belly Hold
Michelle Dhanoa | APR 9
A warm, stabilizing somatic tool to bring your awareness back into your center.
This grounding practice uses gentle, layered touch to help regulate the nervous system, soften anxiety, and reconnect you with your center. It’s especially supportive when you feel scattered, overwhelmed, or unanchored.
Both hands
Comfortable seated or reclined posture
30–90 seconds of quiet
Sit or lie comfortably and place one hand on your belly.
Place your other hand on top, creating gentle, steady pressure.
Take slow breaths, feeling the warmth of your hands.
Stay for 30–90 seconds, noticing any shift in grounding or ease.
Move hands to your ribs or chest if belly contact feels vulnerable.
Add a soft hum on the exhale for vagal support.
Keep eyes open if closing them feels activating.
If inward focus feels overwhelming, keep attention on the warmth of your hands rather than your breath.
During anxiety or overwhelm
Before or after difficult conversations
Before sleep
When you feel disconnected or “floaty”
